Responsible tourism

Tallinn to Prague Baltic vaction

Carbon reduction

Your vacation will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this vacation and how to reduce them.

Transport: This tour is run solely on local transport, including large, comfortable buses between Tallinn and Warsaw and then trains from Warsaw to Prague. This corner of Europe has a fantastic transport infrastructure so we strongly believe there is no need to bring in other tourist vehicles which only cause more congestion and carbon emissions.

Meals: Opting to try local produce in a destination is a great way of ensuring the food has not travelled too far to reach the plate. On this trip, we recommend local markets and smaller establishments where customers can try the best local food while keeping their food miles down.

Environment

As a tour operator, we understand that we play a vital role in educating our customers, staff and all travelers on traveling responsibly and how to treat the environments which we visit. We have a strict responsible travel policy online which is sent to customers at the booking stage, which outlines our reduce, reuse and recycle policy. First and foremost, we encourage travelers to avoid bringing excess packaging and materials that are not easily disposed of, instead opting for reusable water bottles and cloth shopping/laundry bags.

Group Size: The maximum group size on this tour is 19 people, with a normal range of 8 - 14 people. Small group tours have a much smaller impact on the areas that we visit: we can use smaller accommodations, are able to use local transport with ease and cause less stress on the towns and communities in general. All hotels on this trip are centrally located, meaning the group can easily walk to restaurants, areas of interest and tourist attractions, without the need for taxis. In Warsaw, Krakow and Prague our hotels are located next to tram stops for customers who wish to use the local transport infrastructure. Our tour leaders are always on hand to assist with tram timetables and maps, and actively encourage customers to use this instead of taxis.

The hotel that we use in Tallinn has been awarded with the environmental green key for the hard work that they put it to protecting the environment and conserving energy. Some of the ways in which they do this is with the use of aerators in sinks to limit water consumption, shampoo and soap dispensers instead of one use plastic containers, speaking with guests about the necessity of towel changes and using eco label toilet paper.

Community

A large part of our ethos is traveling with respect, educating the traveler and embracing different cultures around the world. As well as in-depth policies online that outline how customers can have a positive impact on the communities that we visit, our tour leaders are passionate about sharing their destinations and educating travelers along the way. Free walking tours with local guides are popular in the cities visited on this trip and our tour leaders actively encourage travelers to join these, ask questions and engage with the culture and history of these places to gain a better understanding of local life.

The Baltic cities have a great range of artisan markets, local shops and unique shopping experiences. Our tour leaders conduct a walking orientation of each destination that we visit, showing travelers the best markets to browse and pick up souvenirs, ensuring that their money is going back to the local economy and not international brands.

By traveling on local transport, this maximises interactions with local residents and long journeys often open the door for conversations and meeting new friends. We find that this form of travel is a great way to meet people from around the world.

On this trip, the Riga Central Market is a wonderful visit, not only does it immerse travelers in the hustle and bustle of the vendors but the huge variety of local produce on offer is second to none and a great place to pick up some snacks.
