As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
The properties in this itinerary are very much focused on having a low environmental impact with solar powered electricity and water heating systems. The electrical items that are used in the camps are all energy-saving products from light bulbs to fans, meaning that you can still enjoy comforts, but without the adverse environmental impacts. In addition to energy-saving measures, the camps have also been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. For instance thatch roofing is used as an insulation system to keep rooms and tents cool in the summer and warmer in winter. Similarly they use insulated cladding around hot water systems to avoid heat loss making them more efficient in order to avoid wasting water. A further way that our Safaris conserve the environment is by ensuring that no sewerage enters the soil or ground through their above ground sewerage treatment plan, avoiding any cross contamination or damage to the flora and fauna in the environmentally sensitive areas that they operate. A final way that Kwando Safaris work to sustain the environment, is by providing each of their guests with a re-useable glass water bottle to use for the duration of their stay.
Each of our bookings to Botswana includes a donation to Travel for Impact, a grassroots NGO which supports a variety of community and conservation initiatives. This is in recognition of the need to support communities in order to in turn support the natural environment. A huge reason we like to work with these Safaris is that they are one of the few safari companies in Botswana which are 100% citizen owned, with 98% of staff being citizens and 100% of staff that you will encounter on your safari being from Botswana – ensuring that you are shown Botswana by the people of Botswana; it also ensures that the money that you pay for your safari remains in the place that you are visiting. Kwando also take part in Pack for a Purpose which allows their guests to give back to the area that they are visiting through donating supplies to the local community including school supplies or donating to Kwando’s Mummy’s Angels initiative to support mothers and their newborns in Maun.
