As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetSince the focus is cycling, this is the main mode of transport used and it doesn't use any carbon. A support van is provided to travel only the distance which you will cycle in order to minimise carbon emissions. In addition, we use small, environmentally friendly 15-25 seat coaches, rather than larger 40-50 seaters which admit more carbon.
The environment is what makes your experience, and maintenance of this will have a long-term positive impact. Our local leaders encourage refilling and reusing bottles with the safe tap drinking water. Furthermore, where needed your leader will direct you to the nearest recycling bins or collect all recyclable waste to distribute to the right place later on.
As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.
PeopleOne of the reasons we prefer to use local leaders is so they can give a real insight into the cultures and turbulent history of South Africa, which is made even more real by sharing their own stories and experiences often first hand. In addition to this, we are supporting them financially through employment. Tourism is a major source of employment in South Africa.
Visiting small, independent-owned restaurants are an integral part of our itinerary, and this means money goes into the local economy and community and in addition guests get an authentic South African meal experience, which includes regional specialities such as Bobotie and Vetkoek.
As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of UK travel industry bodies Tourism Concern and AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
