For this tour, we focus on trekking in more remote areas and using local boats to travel as much as possible. By choosing local boats, we are supporting the community and removing the excess carbon emissions an unnecessary private boat hire would cause. We also purchase from local markets at every opportunity to reduce reliance on imported goods that bring with them added packaging and added carbon emissions due to plane or vehicle transport over long distances.
In the remote areas, all restaurants use seasonal and local produce such as mangoes, bananas, dragon fruit, tomatoes, and avocados.
The trekking area on this tour is focused on the Nam Ha National Protected Area. Bringing travelers to the Nam Ha allows them to experience an area that is home to roughly 33 mammal & 288 bird species. In order to protect such a valuable area, we focus on transporting food stuffs in reusable containers that we bring out when we leave. Additionally, banana leaves & other plant materials are used as often as possible to avoid single use plastics.

People

On all of our tours, we encourage travelers to purchase from local markets when that option is available to them. This allows for an authentic sense of the local community and what the community values. It also provides an opportunity for cultural exchange as travelers will take away knowledge of new produce and other goods that they can use once for the rest of their lives. In local markets you can find woven goods such as scarves or rugs and silver jewelry made in the traditional style of each unique tribe.
Over the course of this adventure, travelers meet people from a countless number of the ethnic hill tribes that live in Laos. Our guides provide information on each group and during the multiple village visits, the guide can provide translation as necessary in order to provide a more full understanding of each unique culture. As we have been operating in Laos for 20 years and all of the guides are local, our guides know where to go in order to enjoy the most rewarding experience whether that is finding the best fruit shake or visiting a weaving workshop that specializes in a specific pattern our guest may be looking for.
