Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

By traveling in small groups, with a maximum size of 16, we limit the amount of erosion and destruction of vegetation which can be caused by excess visitors.
The tap water is both safe to drink and clean in Portugal and we encourage clients to take a reusable water bottle to fill up, rather than generating plastic bottle waste.
As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.
The Impacts of this Trip
Whilst staying in Corales, our leader will take the group to local restaurants on the coast in the evenings and when in Sesimbra the group can enjoy dinner in a family-run marisqueira (seafood restaurant). The group will also pay a visit to a traditional pastelaria in Lisbon to enjoy a delicious pastels de nate (custard tart). The leader will make suggestions and arrangements for meals to ensure the group tries as many home-cooked specialities as possible.
We employ a local Portuguese tour leader who will give the group a unique insight into the country's history, customs and culture and get us that bit closer to the local people. From Sintra's 18th and 19th century palaces to Moorish castles, a 13th century cliff top sanctuary and azulejos (painted tiles) in Lisbon. The leader ensure that our customers are aware of the cultural norms that should be observed, dress code, gestures, etc and are trained by us in the importance of responsible tourism with guidance given on how they can make a difference.
As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
