Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

While in the park, travelers will benefit from our selection of local guides who are trained and well-versed in the practices of sustainability and minimal impact. Guides not only educate and provide context for the details of the park, but they ensure that individuals do not have an impact on wildlife by discouraging flash photography, observing proper distance from animals and noting how our nuanced behavior can directly impact our environment.
We privilege accommodations that emphasize a conservation approach throughout. Take the Simbavati River Lodge, for instance. Balancing luxury touches with the small footprint of traditional safari encampments, this eco-friendly lodge sits within the Timbavati Private Game Reserve inside of Kruger National Park. The grounds are built around ancient Jackalberry and Leadwood trees, along the banks of a river that is home to countless species. Guests are educated in their surroundings and encouraged to tread lightly and witness the wonders of their environment without leaving a trace.
The Impacts of this Trip
Throughout this trip, you are accommodated by local, naturalist guides. Our escorted trips use local guides and support staff exclusively. Guides’ training and background varies throughout our tours. But one thing remains consistent: their enthusiasm, professionalism, friendliness and knowledge of the regions. Many of the local guides we use hold degrees in their region's history, biology, archaeology or a related field. Certification programs are required; many also participate in an apprenticeship before they are allowed to lead tours on their own. All guides are thoroughly researched and hand-picked by our staff or a trusted affiliate.
We base our hotel selection on the following criteria: being locally owned and operated, built in a sustainable manner, having a desirable location, safety, cleanliness, and ranging in size from 12-20 rooms where possible. This helps to ensure small group size, which in turn helps minimize local impact. Lodges that use innovative practices to improve upon their sustainability and mitigate any environmental impacts are given special preference.
