Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We subscribe to the mission statements of “Responsible Travel” organizations and invite you to take part in this mission with us. Every ride is an ecosystem that needs to be protected to be enjoyed. Nature gives us everything free – we put it at the heart of our company.

In 1325, the Portuguese queen Isabel made a pilgrimage to Santiago following a route very similar to the one that today is marked with yellow arrows. Now, hikers and cyclists share the roads and trails of the woodland areas, crossing some historical and quaint towns/cities such as Barcelos, Valença, Tui, Pontevedra and Padrón, on their way to Santiago the Compostela. The paths and trails of the Camino are clean and looked after, something only possible with everyone's involvement - its users and local communities.

Leave nothing but bike tire marks: On this trip we invite you to fully explore the nature surrounding you, and help protect it, by reducing water use in your tour, not leaving trash and residues unattended and minimize damage to the environment, wildlife and marine ecosystems. Download our app, in which you can experience all the aspects of your tour, avoiding unnecessary printing of any documents and tapping into the power of your smartphone to fully experience our tours. In our app, you’ll also find further pre-trip information on the social and political situation in each destination and suggestions of ways to minimize negative impacts on local cultures.

As this is a cycling vacation it is by nature a low carbon vacation.

People

As riders, we understand the blessing that is exploring the great outdoors and being in touch with nature. We feel that we, who explore the world’s trails and backroads, have a greater sense of communion with nature, local cultures and people we encounter along the way. And as a company, we are also aware that we must give back to nature and local communities to keep this relation sustainable so that we can fully enjoy it. On our tours, you’ll always be accompanied by local guides, as we understand this enhances the experience and adds to the authenticity of your visit.

During the Camino - and besides the historical and religious buildings - many local restaurants, cafés and typical shops can be found along the way, as well as friendly faces from your fellow travelers - don't forget to wish them a Bom Camino! The north-western region of Portugal – the Minho province – along with the Galicia region (a province of Spain), offer a unique variety of Green wines, hardly found anywhere else in Portugal and Spain, and a great diversity in its cuisines. The Minho region, more prevailing in cow and pork meats, and the Galicia region where the fish and seafood prevail, thanks to the richness of the Vigo Ria.

We also choose local suppliers, accommodations and restaurants, that employ locally and help better transmit the feeling, gastronomy and cultures of the Minho and Galicia provinces. We also invite you to support these local communities with your business, so that they can live out their traditions, cultures, and immaterial patrimony for many years to come.
