Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
This tour has been designed to avoid domestic flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara. We feel this provides a much better experience, allowing you to see more of the country you are traveling through, whilst also reducing CO2 emissions. Our Nepal guides are strict in monitoring and preventing littering to protect the sites we visit and waste bins are provided in all vehicles. We also strongly recommend the use of filtered or purified water instead of purchasing bottled water en-route and thereby adding to the already large problem of plastic waste in the mountains. All travelers are encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottles, though these are readily available in Kathmandu too and we are rolling out a program of providing large water canisters in our vehicles on group tours to take refills from. We are also offering water filtering bottles to travelers, all of which can vastly reduce waste generated by our customers both during the tour and on an ongoing basis.
Many of the sites we visit are incredibly important historical and natural wonders, and we encourage our travelers to treat these sites as such, sticking to marked paths, not climbing on ruins, picking wild plants or flowers, and avoiding disturbing the local wildlife as much as possible.
People
We use only Nepalese guides and Porters, all trained and qualified which not only contributes towards the local economy and provides much needed jobs, but provides an insight into Nepalese culture which only a local could do. We have worked with the same Nepali family for 20 years who help to run all our operations in Nepal. We aim to use only locally owned hotels and guesthouses whilst in Kathmandu. During the trek we stay in tea houses and trekking lodges owned by the local villagers rather than camping as we feel this both provides a more interactive experience and puts more back into the local mountain communitiesAll porters used are employed under the guidelines provided by the International Porter Protection group, which covers their clothing & footwear and maximum loads as well as other employment guidelines.
We have supported various local charities and NGOs over the years, including specific donations and support to our local team and their families following the 2015 earthquake.
