PlanetThe operator that runs the lodges featured in this itinerary is committed to environmental sustainability and to responsible travel. Because of this they add an additional charge to the cost of each booking, this environmental investment is donated in entirety to projects contributing to a sustainable future in Svalbard and supports the operators efforts to be climate neutral. This climate investment goes to support a partnered Agro-Forestry Camp – a tree planting project in Kenya, Africa.
Within this itinerary some of the lodges have received acknowledgement and accreditations for their environmental efforts. Firstly, Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen has obtained certification for their environmental efforts from Eco-lighthouse, which is Norway’s most widely used certification scheme which aims to create more environmentally friendly enterprises and safer work environments. They set out industry-specific requirements of which Basecamp Hotel has been independently assessed against and must undergo re-certification every three years along with submitting annual environmental reports.
Isfjord Radio was awarded with the St Olav’s Rose – a hallmark of Norwegian Heritage. The symbol points out to especially distinguished places that have succeeded to combine development and protection in modern way.
PeopleWe are very proud to be a committed provider of vacations focused on responsible travel. We work closely with the local suppliers who share our dedication to responsible tourism and who echo our values of having a positive impact on the environment, conservation and local communities.
All local guides mentioned in our itineraries are paid a fair wage, from the excellent staff at the lodges, adventure guides during activities to the drivers used for your transfers by car or boat.
As well as this as part of the operators links with Africa, by traveling on this trip you will automatically contribute part of your money to different projects in Kenya.
A foundation set up specifically for this aims to build hospitals, educate children and young adults, build jobs and provide steady income for the
local tribes. Therefore you can enjoy your arctic trip and know that you have done your part to help lives in Africa!
