Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

The operator that runs this itinerary and will be guiding your dog-sled trip is committed to environmental sustainability and to responsible travel. An additional charge is added to the cost of each booking and this environmental investment is donated in its entirety to projects contributing to a sustainable future in Svalbard and supports the operators efforts to be climate neutral. This environmental investment goes to support a partnered Agro-Forestry project– a tree planting initiative in Kenya.

Within this itinerary some of the lodges have received acknowledgement and accreditations for their environmental efforts. Firstly, Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen has obtained certification for their environmental efforts from Eco-lighthouse, which is Norway’s most widely used certification scheme which aims to create more environmentally friendly enterprises and safer work environments. They set out industry-specific requirements of which Basecamp Hotel has been independently assessed against and must undergo re-certification every three years along with submitting annual environmental reports.

Isfjord Radio was awarded with the St Olav’s Rose – a hallmark of Norwegian Heritage. The symbol points out to especially distinguished places that have succeeded to combine development and protection in modern way.

We are proud to be a provider of vacations focused on responsible travel. We work closely with the local suppliers we have chosen to partner with and who share our dedication to responsible tourism. They also echo our values of using tourism to have a positive impact on the environment, conservation and local communities.

The local guides mentioned in our itineraries are paid a fair wage, from the excellent staff at the lodges, the dog-sled guides and the drivers used for your transfers.

The operator behind this safari has close links with Africa and by traveling on this trip you will automatically contribute part towards different projects in Kenya.

For example, a foundation set up by the operator in Kenya aims to build hospitals, educate children and young adults, build jobs and provide steady income for the local tribes. Therefore you can enjoy your arctic trip and know that you have done your part to help lives in Africa!
