Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

This center-based trip stays in a small locally-owned and family-run eco-lodge in Pembrokeshire. All heating and hot water is provided by a ground source heat pump, combined with solar panels to generate electricity. Modern parts of the lodge are constructed using Beco wallform polystyrene blocks that provide excellent insulation.

Wildlife and nature is one of the main attractions in this protected corner of Wales. Birdlife is abundant and our guests will be able to look out for razorbills, guillemots, gannets, chough, fulmars, kittiwakes, cormorants, shags, peregrine falcons and buzzards. It is possible to spot Atlantic grey seals from the cliff tops and view points on our walks. Our Tour Leader will help to help knowledge and understanding of the local wildlife.

Walking is arguably the greenest from of travel with no carbon footprint. On this walking vacation we hike in the protected environment of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Vehicle transfers are kept to a minimum and are relatively short when needed. Our hikes allow us to explore with minimal impact on the natural world.

As part of our Responsible Travel policy, we advise customers to take reusable water bottles with them on tour. Our local leaders actively do not distribute single-use plastic water bottles. Tap water is safe to drink and they encourage customers to refill their bottles every day in the lodge.

People

We help to ensure that our trip benefits the economy directly where we stay. The lodge that we work with and stay at for the duration of this trip is locally owned and family-run and our Tour Leader, guides and drivers are all locally employed. Our Local Tour Leaders are supported by our experienced operations managers who also conduct leader training helping to invest in their skill set.

All breakfast, picnic lunches and evening meals are included at the lodge and the ingredients for these are sourced as locally as possible where feasible.

On our walks the Leader will help to explain the history and culture of the area and villages we pass through as well as the geology and flora and fauna. On an afternoon walk we visit the last remaining working woollen mill in Wales at Tregwynt where people have the opportunity to buy local products in the gift shop and cafe.
