3 out of 5 stars

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Being able to swim from the boat on route to the next shore adventure and enjoy the ride up on deck, basking in the sun.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Travel light, you don't need much in the way of clothes. Cozzy, sarong, beach towel, shorts, a couple of vest tops/t-shirts & flops + sturdy sandals (for walking up stony paths for sunset views, etc) is all you need.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
In a limited way - yes - because our booking was via a local Turkish operator. The boat crew were Turkish - but unfortunately their customer service was somewhat lacking at the end of the season & get they still expected to be benefit tipped, on top of the high priced drinks on board.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
The ports & places visited were fine, but our crew gave us no daily information on what was at our next destination & how we were docking there. Was it by dingy - or was it by pier?? We never knew so didn't know whether it was flip .com or sandals required.
8 of us were given a welcome meeting which didn't cover all the expectations of us on board. The 4 other passengers who were late joining the boat had no welcome meeting at all.
We were given the WiFi code - which was great! The captain advised that some overnight mooring bays had no signal - that was accepted, no problem. After Day 3 we had no WiFi at all for the rest of the trip. The captain said all the week's usage had been consumed - so the password changed & only the crew had
access. That was a disappointing game changer. None of us could WhatsApp our fun photos to our family & friends at the end of a lovely day. As it 's October, it's dark by 7.30pm. It would have been a nice evening pass-time, swapping pics among our group.... then sending on worldwide all the fun we'd had that day. Would have been brilliant free advertising for what was otherwise a great value for money vacation. What a shame!
Due to the issues mentioned, I just can't give it the 5-star it
should have deserved.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
As our Gullets are naturally powered by the wind, this has obvious environmental benefits, which helps to reduce the carbon impact of these cruises. Whilst sails cannot be used in all weather conditions, we do aim to use these whenever possible.Drinking water and the waste associated by single use plastic water bottles is something we are working hard on in Turkey as well as other destinations. All travelers are encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottles and we are rolling out a program of providing large water canisters in our vehicles on group tours to take refills from. We are also offering water filtering bottles to travelers, all of which can vastly reduce waste generated by our customers both during the tour and on an ongoing basis.
As all meals are included on our Gulet sailing vacations, all produce is brought onboard from local producers which has a positive impact on the local economies.
Our Turkish guides are strict in monitoring and preventing littering to protect the sites we visit and waste bins are provided in all vehicles.
Many of the sites we visit are incredibly important historical and natural wonders, and we encourage our travelers to treat these sites as such, sticking to marked paths, not climbing on ruins, picking wild plants or flowers, and avoiding disturbing the local wildlife as much as possible.
People
In Turkey, we visit a couple of carefully selected local shops during most tours, where travelers can learn about the local traditions and methods of carpet-weaving and leather production. All products sold in these shops are sourced from the surrounding local communities. On this and our other tours in Turkey aim to support the local economy by using only local Turkish guides and working with locally owned gullet operators, all of which employ local crews.
To provide a more in depth experience of Turkish culture, whenever disembarking the gullet, we aim to explore on foot wherever possible. We aim to take some of the lesser explored pathways whilst exploring cities, towns and coves.
Our tour notes provide advance information on dress codes and particular local customs and our guides will expand on this in their explanations during the tour. This means we can create valuable and rewarding opportunities for our travelers and local people to mingle and exchange ideas and thoughts without causing any unintended offence.
