Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Walking is one of the most environmentally friendly ways to travel, by sticking to official routes we also minimise erosion of wild areas. You could consider reducing your impact on the environment further by taking public transport to the start of your trip. We always recommend using public transport and give useful and detailed information on how to reach the arrival location and leave the departure location with no private transfer, only using bus or trains. We use family run hotels like Hotel del Corso in Amalfi: it is located in an old 18th century mansion that was once home to a local noble family, before the property was taken over by the Marciano family. One of the walks of the trip takes the travelers to “Valle delle Ferriere”: this natural reserve has such climatic and environmental conditions to allow the presence of vegetal species of ancient origin, like the Giant Chain Fern and some species of carnivorous plants that are otherwise extremely rare.
People
One of the great aspects of a walking vacation is the ability to stop off en route to visit local markets, enjoy a drink in a small café and meet the local people. Italians are very welcoming and particularly appreciative when people try to speak their language so why not learn a few phrases before you go?Staying in small, family run hotels and eating at local restaurants along our journey enables us to support a variety of local businesses. We’re confident it ensures you get a better experience too as you relax and enjoy the hospitality of the local people and get the chance to sample lots of the delicious local specialities after a hard day’s walking! We only choose local providers in country for the luggage transfers to help the local economy.
In addition to the above, we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key and so all staff, Tour leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage. As well as this, we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of UK travel industry bodies Tourism Concern and AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
