As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe are committed to respecting and preserving the ecosystems and wildlife of Tai. We only undertake wildlife watching on foot and by kayak to ensure minimal damage to the environment. We always keep our distance from wildlife, and urge guests to refrain from undertaking any activity that may harm wildlife to lead to unnatural behaviour, including feeding or teasing wildlife. Tai NP is home to an array of species, including an impressive diversity of primates and forest duikers. We are particularly careful to avoid close contact with primates due to the risk of our transmitting disease.
We carefully select local suppliers that work to preserve the local environment. Our partners in Cote d'Ivoire include 'Ecotourisme Tai', an organisation committed to the protection and preservation of the national park through ecotourism. We also work with representatives of an international NGO who work to protect and study chimpanzees and other primates across West Africa, and our visit supports their ongoing and excellent work.
PeopleWe work very hard to cultivate positive relationships between ourselves, our clients and local people and communities. Core to our mission is ensuring that local communities see direct benefits from ecotourism, and so we ask all clients to consider purchasing items from local markets, and to ensure local staff are appropriately rewarded with gratuities. We ask that clients are sensitive to local customs and traditions, and this includes dressing modestly and not photographing anyone without their explicit consent.
We ensure that all partners we work with employ local people, and our visit to Tai brings a significant amount of employment and investment to the area. Guides, cooks and porters are all local, as are the ecoguards we work with. Most local guides are not experts or specialists, and we ensure that our visit is an opportunity to share knowledge from across the continent, including information specific to Tai's wildlife. For instance, we enhance and broaden the understanding of local ecoguards concerning the plight of the pygmy hippo, their habits and how best to view them.
