Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

We are very familiar with the wildlife in Pendjari National Park, and are committed to its protection and preservation. We recognise the international importance of the populations of cheetah, leopard, lion, spotted hyena, elephant and buffalo (amongst other species) that are found here, and will never conduct any activities that endanger or harass wildlife. In particular, we will never drive off-road in sensitive areas, nor will we crowd a sighting, or pursue an animal that chooses to move away from us. This itinerary includes several night drives, and we will never deliberately spotlight a diurnal animal. We will also never spotlight a young, injured or otherwise vulnerable animal.

We ask that clients refrain from using single-use plastics throughout this tour by, for example, re-using water bottles. We politely request that all litter generated during your visit is removed from Pendjari, either by ensuring it is properly disposed of during your stay, or returning it to Cotonou. We also ask that clients are conscious of their water usage throughout their stay by, for example, limiting the length of showers.

It is crucial that local people and their communities see a genuine benefit from ecotourism. Our visit, conducted properly, can contribute towards the attachment of value by local communities to wildlife and ecosystem which, in turn, helps to secure these animals and the habitats in which they live for future generations. As such, we insist that all suppliers employ local people and guests should expect cooks, guides, housekeeping staff and pilots to be Beninoise during your stay.

It is important for clients to recognise that they are guests in Benin, and to be respectful of local people, their culture and their traditions throughout their stay. To this end, we always ask guests to dress modestly and to please refrain from photographing local people without their permission. Guests are asked to be kind and patient in all interactions with local people - ecotourism remains uncommon in much of Benin, and your presence may occasionally attract friendly attention. Guests are encouraged to interact with local people and acknowledge this curiosity as the friendliness that it is, rather than something that is intimidating.
