Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We are acutely aware of the plight facing much of the wildlife in the Benoue Complex, and in Faro more specifically. We recognise the international importance of many of the populations of animals here, including the giant eland, Kordofan giraffe, elephant, lion and leopard. It is vitally important that these populations, and the ecosystem in which they live, are protected and conserved. To this end, we will do our best to look after the ecosystem by never driving off-road in sensitive areas, never pursuing any animal that chooses to move away from us and always keeping a respectful distance from any animal that we are lucky enough to see. This itinerary includes night drives, and we will never spotlight a diurnal animal, nor will we ever spotlight a young, injured or otherwise distressed animal. It is important to know that the area this tour visits is actively used for big-game hunting. In this part of Africa, big-game hunting is an effective model for conserving deeply-threatened wildlife populations, and this will be discussed in detail during your tour.During your stay, it is imperative that any impact on the environment is minimised and mitigated. We therefore ask clients to limit their use of water during their stay, including limiting the length of showers and any superfluous use of water. We also strongly encourage guests to limit use of single-use plastics throughout their tour.
People
It is crucial to our mission that ecotourism delivers genuine benefits to local people and the communities of which they are a part. When done properly and effectively, this ensures that local people attach value to wildlife and the ecosystems they inhabit, which in turn better allows the future of valuable species to be secured. To this end, we insist that all of our suppliers employ local people. As such, guests should expect that, throughout this itinerary, drivers, guides, housekeeping staff and cooks are Cameroonian.Ecotourism is very much in its infancy across Cameroon and it is therefore of the utmost importance that all interactions between ecotourists and local people are wholly positive. We ask that clients do all they can to ensure this is the case by dressing modestly and never photographing anyone without their consent. We also ask that clients are patient if the standard of service is slightly below that in more developed tourist destinations on the continent.
