Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

We recognise that Lower Zambezi National Park and South Luangwa are both unique and precious ecosystems in their own right, and that ecotourism must contribute towards the preservation of these ecosystems and the wildlife that depends of them. In particularly, we recognise these areas protect internationally important populations of leopard, lion, elephant, wild dog and many other species. With this in mind, we always abide by park regulations, and will never leave the road during game drives. We will never remain at a sighting, or approach a sighting, if we deem it to be crowded by other vehicles or if we believe our presence would be of detriment to the animal we are viewing. We will never pursue an animal that has chosen to move away from us.

Despite being well-visited areas, South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi still face pressures from poaching. As such, we are keen that our visit contributes to anti-poaching efforts, and park fees are paid to the Zambian Wildlife Authority to aid their removal of snares and their targeted anti-poaching efforts in the parks.

Despite having perennial water sources, parts of these ecosystems do suffer from drought, and we ask that clients are sensitive to this when it comes to their use of water during their vacation. We ask them to please avoid any superfluous use of water, including taking long showers.

It is vital to the partnership between local communities and ecotourism that the latter contributes directly to the former. If this is done properly and appropriately, local people, and the communities of which they are a part, are better able to attach value to the ecosystems and wildlife our clients travel so far to see. This, in turn, does a huge amount to secure a future for these animals and their habitat, preserving them for future generations. With this in mind, we ask all of our suppliers to ensure local people benefit through employment from our presence. As such, guests should expect that, throughout this tour, lodges employ local staff, including guides, drivers, cooks and housekeeping staff.

We ask that clients are always unfailingly polite and kind in all interactions with local people. On occasion, the 'thrill of the chase' can lead some drivers and guides, local and international, to act inappropriately at sightings. We ask that clients leave this with their tour leader to address, and instead focus on enjoying this wonderful tour.
