As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe aim to reduce our energy usage, particularly in comparison to motor based cruising boats, by sailing and not motoring whenever this is practicble. We have a modern folding propeller which assists to increase speed when sailing and it is optimally pitched to reduce fuel use when motoring at economical speed. We have solar panels to assist with battery charging which, again, reduces the need to run the engine and to put out carbon. On a boat water is at a premium and we encourage measures to save it as much as possible so as to help preserve the nationís water and to avoid having to top up more often than absolutely necessary.
Around wildlife we aim to be responsible and to minimise any disturbance to them. We have undergone training by WISE and accreditation by them is pending. We also encourage other boats and people to comply with wildlife guidelines from WISE, RSPCA etc. to ensure people and wildlife can have pleasant, safe and non confrontational or stressful encounters with one another.
PeopleWe support local businesses where possible by buying fresh produce from them as well as encouraging guests to use local businesses and facilities so as put money into the local economy. We take guests to local cafes and restaurants which we know to be good encourage them to enjoy the facilities and We support local fishermen by maintaining a good relationship with them and buying seafood and fish from them when possible. We encourage guests so participate in local tours and activities like cycling, kayaking, golfing which helps the local economy. We normally return to Tighnabruaich on the Kyles of Bute on a Friday, in time for the Skipper to help teach the local children sailing through the auspices of the local sailing club and sailing school.
Work to maintain the boat and to keep her at the appropriate standard for Chartering and safey is done locally on the Island of Bute helping to keep good employment for local craftsmen in the industry.
