1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

What an incredible experience! It is hard to pick just one memorable experience as the entire journey along the Trans Bhutan Trail was incredible. Me and my guide Singay were the only ones on the trail except for locals. We saw no tourists and for me connecting with the local people and learning about their daily lives and customs was the most memorable part of the trip. Dining at local farmhouses and seeing how traditional meals are cooking was another highlight as was the opportunity to dine at local restaurants and scrap the tourist hotel meals.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Be adventurous. The more willing you are to let go and experience the Trans Bhutan Trail, the better. Be open and willing to try new things out of your comfort zone. The best times I had was when I dined at local haunts instead of the hotel and sat down at a farmhouse to share a meal.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes yes and yes. By going with this tour operator they are a nonprofit and all the money is reinvested back into the people and the trail. We tread lightly and help support the environment, the local businesses and people.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

One of the best in decades. Thank you!!!

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

By focusing only on one country, we can ensure that our responsible travel practices are researched and practiced on all of the trips that we run. Bhutan is the only Carbon Negative country in the world and we do not want to impact on anything that could disrupt that. By offering programmes such as this which are focused on the center and east of the country, we seek to spread the benefits of tourism across the whole country, rather than in a handful of areas in the west. This has a positive impact both on the environment and on communities across Bhutan.

At accommodation and lunch spots, food is typically organically and locally grown and we take a zero- tolerance approach to single-use plastic on our trips.

This trip includes five days hiking on the Trans Bhutan Trail. Before departure, travelers will be given a Trail Code which outlines the rules for hiking on the Trail, including a ‘leave no trace’ policy. Signposts on the Trail have been made with Greener Way, a company using recycled waste products.

People

This trip visits the east of Bhutan, previously a region which was overlooked in tourism. This means that we can support the local communities here, staying in locally owned lodges and using guides local to the region. On day 5 you will have a cooking class at a local farm where you will interact with the hosts here and be able to support local farm owners.

All of our trips have community at the forefront of what we do. 100% of our profits go back into the Trans Bhutan Trail and sustaining it for the communities who live along it. When trekking on the Trail travelers will be able to interact with the signposts along it, all using QR technology. The content, is local to the region, with stories, animations and videos of the history of the area ensuring that both local and international trekkers are educated on the culture within Bhutan.
