The spirit of conservation Torassieppi Reindeer Farm fosters also extends to their in-house museum. The original reindeer farm dates back to 1847 when the land-owning family kept reindeer for transport, milk and meat production. In the manor house and in the reindeer museum you can explore the history of the reindeer farm, viewing the original equipment used in the days it was used for actual reindeer herding. Every object has its own mission and each has its own story, which the family members will happily explain.

Furthermore, the upkeep of this traditional practice provides enormous financial benefits for the indigenous Sámi people. To receive the approval of the paliskunta, the owner of the reindeer must be approved as a member by a reindeer herding district and must permanently reside in the municipality to which the district belongs, ensuring outside interests cannot deprive local communities of their profits.
