Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

The very ethos of our style of travel is responsible; small groups on fully escorted tours, experiencing the very best of a region, a culture and a landscape, with a friendly local hand guiding the way. Our itineraries are designed to give our travelers real life experiences without compromising the part of the world through which we are journeying, this is our commitment as a global tour operator.

Our Venice accommodation is a small family run hotel, in walking distance of the station. We walk EVERYWHERE in Venice, so as not to add to the pollution of the canals, wave damage and silting of the lagoon caused by increasing numbers of cruise ships and vaporetto boats. We encourage travelers to try a gondola ride - no fossil fuels consumed, no toxic emissions, supporting the age-old gondolier trade (apprenticeship can only be handed down from father to son) and putting our cash into local family's pockets.

The Impacts of this Trip

In Gubbio we stay at another small family run establishment, where our travelers may choose to eat at a local restaurant that is a supporter of the Slow Food movement. Our Assisi accommodation consists of another family run guesthouse... then we head to Spello to a small wine cellar to taste wine and oil and local gastronomic delights, a delicious way to support local producers.

As a company, our responsibilities donít stop when our tours end. We run and support a variety of projects globally, from healthcare, education, human rights, child welfare, sustainable development and environmental and wildlife protection. Our own in house foundation has been in operation for over 11 years; a not-for-profit fund that has distributed over AU$3 million to more than 70 non-government organisations since 2002. Donations come from our travelers and are then matched by us dollar for dollar.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I enjoyed the trip. However, I think more time should be scheduled for staying on land rather than sailing. I would have enjoyed staying 2 nights in at least 2
of the villages and sailing less. Our Captain was very competent and trustworthy with the boat and a kind man, but sometimes his customer care was a bit
short. Another passenger and I had made requests for fish or seafood dinners, by Kostas seemed to prefer the meat farm to table restaurants. One
passenger had a birthday while on board and her husband asked that we could all eat together and celebrate with a cake. This never came to be, a
disappointment for all of us,as Kostas wanted to take us to a local church festival. Because of high winds we were anchored near a village and could not take the dingy in because of choppy waters. We were all dying to get off the boat. The waters calmed down about 11-12:00, but Kostas never took us in to town. I don't know where he was, I think he was sleeping. We could have had fun that afternoon, and continued time on the boat was difficult for us.
