Plitvice Lakes family activity vacation in Croatia
Carbon reduction
Your vacation will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this vacation and how to reduce them.
Environment
The highlights of this multi-activity family vacation include activities in the area around Plitvice Lakes National Park while experiencing breathtaking views and stunning scenery. Plitvice Lakes National Park, a World Heritage Site, plays host to 16 lakes, numerous waterfalls fed by both the Black and White Rivers, as well as seemingly endless forests which make for unique and unforgettable experiences. The local houses are small, traditional dwellings in an idyllic setting and the peaceful atmosphere makes for an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area.
For all of the activities included in the program the guides take every measure to minimize the impact on the local environment. When airport and activity transfers are required they will ensure it is group collection and not individual thereby minimizing the environmental impact of multiply journeys. If only a small number of clients do need to be transferred the suppliers will use the smallest vehicle required to suit the group number to reduce carbon emissions.
On all hiking activities the guides will iterate the impact that increased footpath traffic has on the environment. They operate a strict ‘Leave No Trace’ policy and will collect all waste left over from picnic lunches and snacks to ensure it is disposed of correctly. They will also collect litter, should they find it, left on the trail by the less well informed and actively encourage clients to do the same.
The experienced local guides will advise and teach the guests how to observe and photograph local wildlife without impacting on its behavior or natural habitat. It is always recommended that guests carry reusable water carriers rather than plastic bottles during day activities.
Community
The trip ensures that the local people benefit as much as possible in the form of farm products trade, new jobs and services provided. We consider it our responsibility to lead efforts to maintain and preserve the integrity of this fledgling sector by petitioning the introduction of tighter controls over the use of the country’s natural resources. Our suppliers offer new perspectives to travelers by providing more authentic vacations that allow a true experience of destinations and its culture while contributing to local wellbeing and preserving those areas.
They are passionate about the places they visit and are committed to designing and operating the vacations in such a way to ensure they maximize the positive effects of tourism on the local economies, cultures and the environment whilst minimizing any negative impacts. There are a number of ways they work to achieve this. Participating in any one of the trips you will bring work and income to the people who are still recovering from the war torn years as this was an area severely affected by war.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
It was a wonderful week and all the activities were exciting and fun. Being able to leave the hotel to go straight on the river for Stand up Paddle boarding in clear 'cold' water was an excellent way to get used to the water. Both Kayaking days were exhilarating working for young and old alike with good options to take the cascades, jump them or walk down. The Lakes were really beautiful, the cycle experience was complimented by a wonderful stop at the mill with an amazing lunch. A great mix of activities making each day special and memorable. Our guide, Borna, was very knowledgable and accomodating. He went out of his way to help us, tailoring the day to our needs and setting up a fabulous second session of paddle boarding on our free day.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Bring plenty of swim gear as drying kit out in the hotel is not easy.
Ask ahead of arriving to make sure you get a room at the rear of the hotel and top floor (room 13 was good) to miss all the entrance and vehicles coming and going noise at the front. When you are here for a week getting an apartment with two ajoining rooms and bigger bathroom (Apartment 2 was good) is a must for a family.
Be prepared to up spend to 4 hours per day in a vehicle traveling to activities
