Easily the best part are some of our hosts who, while providing delicious meals from locally raised products, spent the better part of an evening telling us about their families, which were intertwined with the history in this unique region Read full review

The countryside was beautiful and the association with the ancient Via Mercatorum trade route enhanced this. The accommodation and food were excellent. Read full review

Very good. We enjoyed the quietness and the sense we were off the beaten track a little. People were amazingly welcoming in all the accommodation and the food delicious. The vacation was well planned, especially the interesting and varied accommodation. Read full review

We have been on many walks throughout the world, however this is only our second self guided walk, but we thought it was particularly special. When you look at a map you realise that you are not that far from the plains of Bergamo and Milan, but from day 1 you step into a different world of peaceful landscapes, beautiful local villages Read full review

All enjoyable. No one thing outstanding above others. But accommodation, food and hospitality in Briolo was very good. And staying with Marco and father at Prati Parini was unique. Read full review

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

This walk passes through the Colli Bergamaschi, the hills that surround the city. Here, the roads and paths stretch away, linking the borghi, monasteries, churches and estates to each other. Here, in this border region, a delicate balance has been struck between culture and nature and between the traditions of ancient times and a modern society, and to organise and maintain these complex systems, the “Parco dei Colli di Bergamo” was established. The purchase of a map of the area will form a contribution to the maintenance of the park.

During this tour, you will spend two nights at an agriturismo (farmstead). At an agriturismo, a certain percentage of the food and drinks must come from their own crops or animals and another percentage from neighbouring farms (the minimum percentage differs in each region), reducing the environmental footprint of anything served on the menu to a minimum. Moreover, it is always interesting to experience at firsthand how a smallholding in the mountains, even in our modern age, is still closely entwined with its natural surroundings.

In the itinerary, we not only provide background information about the plants and wildlife of the region but we also explain the history of the area in general and of some interesting local personalities as well.

People

This tour will not only bring you into close contact with the natural environment but, in the same measure, it will introduce you to the local community. The proprietors of the family-run lodgings will offer you their services, their products, their hospitality, their friendliness and care, their knowledge and their stories and they are the people who will make this walking tour a truly unique experience. Of course we recognise the importance of the work of the proprietors of the accommodations and we make sure that we recompense their efforts work fairly.

By introducing you to the natural, cultural and social reality by means of written information provided in the itinerary, but above all, by offering the opportunity to live among these local realities and touch on their lives, by means of the carefully designed hike and specially selected lodgings, we hope to encourage love and respect for this region, its inhabitants and their work.

All you consume on the tour will have been produced or purchased locally. As this region is situated off the beaten track, where most tourists only see the airport, situated on its edge before leaving the area to visit the major tourist attractions further afield, the local community will benefit and appreciate your stay.
