Best activities to do in Gozo

Cycling:
With some steep hills, plus roads largely empty of traffic and the bonus of 300 days of sun a year Gozo is a perfect cycling destination for bikers of all ages. Routes follow metalled roads or simple shepherds’ trails through the lovely countryside and small sleepy villages, with the opportunity to stop for a cooling swim in the sea which can never be far away.

Kayaking:
The crystal clear seas, unspoiled beaches, and coves make Gozo an excellent location for kayaking, and should the winds prove too strong a sheltered beach on the leeward side of the island is never far away. Paddlers of all ages can enjoy the excitement of going into hidden caves and gullies once used by raiding pirates and smugglers, or of drifting beneath the immense cliffs to land on ledges or paddling into caverns accessible only by sea.

Climbing:
Climbing on the island was started by the British army in the 50s and 60s and today there are many well laid out bolted routes and traditional lines which cater for all abilities, from the beginner to the experienced climber. With its excellent climate and easy proximity, plus a surprisingly diverse terrain ranging from cliffs to crags and walls, Gozo is growing in popularity as a climbing destination.



Walking:
With its balmy temperatures in the spring when the countryside is covered with wild flowers and blossom, and a benign winter and autumn , Gozo is an excellent place for the out of season walking vacation. Popular trails follow the coast, with the opportunity for a cooling dip on warm days, or cross through the interior of the island with its small villages and churches. The public transport system enables walkers to get back to their hotels without effort at the end of the day.

Scuba diving:
Gozo has some of the best diving in the entire Mediterranean with excellent visibility which can sometimes be more than 40 metres in the clear water close to the shore. There is a wide variety of dive spots and easy access from beaches and inlets around the island. Dive companies on the island are well equipped and can provide courses for all levels, from resort diving to dive masters’ courses.
