Vacation information

SINGLE USE PLASTIC-FREE:
when we started our accommodation business 20 years ago we decided to go as green as it gets (we already had an organic farm for over 15 years then). No single use plastic was one of the first things we focussed on (along with organic food and hot water from renewable energy). Year after year we add some small change to our rooms and apartments to further reduce the use of plastic.
PRESERVING FOOD:
We provide tupperware containers for food storage in our apartments. In our kitchens we have small glass jars for honey and coffee, small glass bottles for oil and vinegar that we fill for every group of guests.
BAGS:
We have shopping bags in the apartments to avoid the use of single use plastic bags in the shops (this has been our last addition in terms of plastic reduction in the apartments, 2 years ago).
IN THE ROOMS:
From the beginning we used soap dispensers in the bathrooms and in the kitchens. Now that we can find cleaner products and soaps with more sustainable packaging, we buy those. Never used single use toiletries.
WATER BOTTLES:
We provide glass bottles and suggest to our guests to drink the water from the tap. In our nearby village a "water house" has just been installed where you can get fizzy water for 5 euro cents per litre. We're planning to get extra bottles in case our guests are interested in getting the water there...
RUBBISH:
We've been collecting plastic rubbish from both the farm and the surrounding area for years, mainly in the woods. In our apartments we have recycling bins and instructions on how to properly separate rubbish.
Change Making:
We didn't participate directly in this decision but we're very pleased that our municipality is promoting the use of tap water by installing the "water house" with very cheap, eco natural fizzy water. We're also talking with our local shops and supermarkets to convince them to allow reusable net bags for fruit, vegetables and bread for instance (instead of plastic bags), but at the moment there seem to be some problem with the sanitary authorities regarding this. So we personally use the reusable bags but still don't suggest this to our guests.
LGBTQIA+
Our partners behind this vacation promote inclusivity on all their trips and across their business and we are all committed to ensuring travelers face no discrimination on any part of the trip they control.

Wonderful. The Marche is a lovely part of Italy and the Locanda is a little paradise within it. Read full review

Everything was memorable! I think the best part for us was also the simplest - sitting on the terrace in the sun, whenever we could, just looking at and drinking in the stunning view and feel of Italian rolling hills!...my friend and I both cried on the night before we had to leave; one of my best vacations ever! Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Keeping in mind the philosophy that "…one should tread lightly on the earth…" we have been an Organic farm since 1981 and is AMAB member, the farm is certified by CCPB.

The Locanda (a farmer’s house built in the 1920s) was restored in 1998 with special attention to energy conservation: the windows are double-glazed, the house is thermically and acoustically insulated and is fitted with solar collectors. The heating system is run using renewable energy: sun power and a low consumption wood stove (the wood we use comes from our 20 hectares woods gathered when we are cleaning the woods or pruning). The house is fitted with low consumption light bulbs and two years ago we installed photovoltaic panels for the farm, the Locanda and for selling electricity, the panels are all on our roofs to keep using our land to plant and grow our food and not spoil the environment.
The farm & accommodation are carbon neutral with over 100000 kg of CO2 less in the athmosphere thanks to our photovoltaic plant.

We organically produce in the farm more than 70% of the food we serve in the restaurant and we buy all we can from nearby farms, most of them organic. This way we also reduce plastic wrappings, cans, etc. All the house-linens are made of 100% natural fibres to minimize possible allergies while providing a high level of comfort. In the bathrooms you’ll find soap dispensers, we don’t use disposable items such as prepackaged soap, plastic cutlery or glasses.

We ask our guests to join us protecting the environment:

- Smoking is not allowed inside the Locanda.
- For the environment’s sake we change the towels and bed linens twice a week and once a week in the apartments.
- We recommend to consume water consciously.
- We invite our guests to make sure that the lights and the ceiling fans are off when they leave their rooms: even if we produce all our electricity, there's no reason to waste it!
- Keeping the shutters and windows closed during the day and open at night is the best way to keep a room cool (our windows are provided with mosquito screens so that the "fauna" keeps outside)
- We provide recycling bins for cans, plastic, paper and compost that can be disposed to in our manure.

People

We support local businesses and local farmers by buying directly from them most of the products that we use in our kitchen (those that we do not produce ourselves).
We work with our neighbours to spread the idea of a cleaner agriculture and we learn the old farming techniques (often abandoned in favour of chemicals and industrial techniques) and the local traditions.
We suggest locally owned shops and local artisans to our guests so that they can buy consciously during their stay.
