Reviews for Maasai Mara safari camp in Kenya

review 15 Jan 2013

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Arriving in the village - the warmth of the welcome, the pleasure of staying in a manyatta (mud hut). Also the activities are wonderful - walks amongst the zebra, milking cows, firing bows and arrows, lighting fires. Really good fun!!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

I went for 4 nights - 2 in the camp and 2 in the village. The camp is great - paraffin lamps, good food and comfy beds. You can get the lie of the land and start to get to know your hosts. But don't miss out on staying in the village - unforgettable.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Totally - the experience is designed by the Maasai to showcase their wonderful culture. And all profits go the them. They use the money to fund a school, water pump and health clinic. Compare this (v reasonably priced) experience to the ridiculous expense of lavish camps in the national park. (Semadep is only 2km from the park gates by the way, and they'll organize safari drives.)

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was my best ever travel experience, and I am a travel writer. I made new friends and learned so much, all in a relaxed environment.
