The homestays, a genuine insight into Romanian village life and much nicer than character - less hotel chains.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Take binoculars to the Danube delta3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, particularly the home stays.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Good variety of things to see/visit amid wonderful scenery and, in May, glorious flowering trees/shrubs which are a vivid memory. I enjoyed the tour but found so many steps/ hills hard going.Helene Leis review 21 May 2018
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Visiting the danbue delta2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
If you are a animal lover do not go the abuse of dogs tied up starving stray dogs and kill animal shelters is unbearable.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
No this country should not be on the tourist list to visit due to the horrific treatment and torture of animals! If you want to do something look into donating to rainbow shelter brasvo they may have to close have in care 30 dogs and 10 cats. Brasvo has horrible history of animal abuse by the city dog catchers. I am vary disappointed that the company promotes tours to Romania and I wish I had not gone this country is a disgrace in regards to how they treat animals!4. Not that good!! Give 2 stars.Read the operator's response here:
Thanks for providing your feedback about this tour. We’re sorry to hear that you felt this trip wasn’t enjoyable due to the treatment of animals in Romania - this is obviously something that is completely beyond our control and not part of the services that we provide.
Different cultures and countries have different ideas of what is appropriate in terms of animal welfare and most places in the world do not adhere to the same standards or ideas that we have in the west. If we were to only travel countries that have the same standards as we do, then unfortunately we’d be very limited - outside of Western Europe, North America and Australasia most places fall short in this area.
Visiting such countries is not the same as condoning everything that happens here, but we don’t feel that Romania is as bad as you perceived it, nor that animal ‘torture’ is widespread. It is common practice here for dogs to be used as ‘working’ animals and guard dogs rather than as pets as we do in the west, and often they are tied up in gardens and yards. This is very much part of rural life in Romania and it is not necessarily appropriate for us to impose our ideas on the host countries that we visit.
I’m sorry that you did not enjoy the trip, especially as others on the trip gave very positive reviews, but wish you all the best for your future travels.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The fabulous Byzantine painted monasteries of Bukovina, medieval Saxon city centers of Sibui, and Sighisoara and the UNESCO listed village of Viscri were wonderful and the outdoor museum of vernacular architecture in Bucharest is also well worth seeing.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Be aware that on some days many hours are spent traveling. Bran Castle is the most over rated destination resembling something out of Disney - Vlad Dracula never went near the place but thousands of people are bussed out on the 12 hour round trip from Bucharest daily.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
There were some economic benefits to local people4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Very good - Nick was an excellent guide, diplomatic, knowledgeable and able to answer most questions. He was proud of his country and did everything he could to help a group of people with different objectives to achieve the best outcome.Susan Groves review 9 Oct 2015
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Discovering the countryside of Romania. We travelled with a very knowledgeable guide who loved his country and had a great wealth of knowledge. As we did mostly homestays we felt we had a real insight into the country. Very memorable was picking enormous mushrooms from the fields and our guide cooking them for us that evening.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
There is a lot of traveling but it is worth it. Expect to have great experiences, good food, excellent wine, heaps of history and great scenery and architecture.Try to make it to the Black Sea coast, which we did. As there were only 2 of us we were able to tweak the itinerary to some extent. Ask for Andrei Nutu as the guide as we cannot praise him highly enough.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
It certainly benefited local people as we stayed with a lot of them. We ate in local homes or at local restaurants and bought picnics from the local markets. We used water from the taps or springs. We ate locally produced fish meat and veg. Several places here we stayed were involved in local conservation projects, archaeology or historical preservation.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Brilliant. We have travelled a lot but this was amongst the most enjoyable and interesting.Holiday Reviews
