1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Every day was a revelation and a joy. This trip was the best ever. Seeing two white tailed sea eagles soaring above the boat was very special. Watching the porpoises leaping in front of the boat. Seeing (and HEARING) the gannets on Ailsa Craig .............. taking the tender from Splendour - our converted fishing boat - to the rocky island was fun and exciting.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Read up about the various islands you will be visiting prior to the trip. Check out the wild-life and birds you might encounter (rare this year but the few we saw gave us excitement and pleasure). You don't need many clothes - no dressing up for dinner - but layers of light to warm clothes for outdoors, waterproof or over-trousers for trips in the tender, a warm hat, maybe gloves, sturdy shoes ..... camera - sketch pad - backpack - and plan a diet on your return. Three star cuisine many times a day!!!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The skipper and cook source all produce locally and are very conscious of respecting the environment and conservation. For example, we never approached the seals too closely in order not to disturb them.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Exceptional. Already planning our return, maybe from Oban , next year, if all goes well. I'm trying to find a negative point - but I can't!!!! I cried the first morning I went on deck and saw the beautiful views - sea, sky,...... and I cried again BEFORE and after I disembarked. In five days Splendour became home - I felt so zen and relaxed - as well as invigorated and better informed in so many ways. You don't spend 24hrs on the boat. Each day once or twice we'd be ferried ashore in the ship's tender for a walk or to visit a garden or ....... whatever there was to see or do ... we had the opportunity.Holiday Reviews
