1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Tiger safari in Ranthambore National Park

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Have a very clear plan in mind for your trip and communicate regularly with your travel organiser, particularly in the month leading up to your departure for your trip. This will avoid last minute difficulties or misunderstandings between yourself and your organiser. This worked for us.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Our trip benefited local people as we used their services regularly. However, the environmental attitude of the Indian populous in general is woefully lacking, but we could not affect this.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent. One of the leaders was on the trekking phase of our trip. This did have to be rearranged partway through because of weather and safety concerns, but this was renegotiated and replanned in country to our satisfaction.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Trek in the Himalayas from Kafnu to Kara, the Ghandi museum in Delhi & the Taj Mahal.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

If you like trekking, this is a fantastic peaceful environment for it.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

My vacation benefited local people: the people who helped on the trek, local restaurants & shops, the guides, reps & drivers involved.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Fantastic experience especially by the fact the vacation was just tailored for me: it was just me on the trek with a guide, a helper, a horseman & 3 horses.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The view from our hotel roof of the lake and Palace Hotel at Udaipur; the beautiful and restful Humayun's Tomb in Delhi; staying in the Sarahan Temple guest house (until the 4am (amplified!) service started); the local wedding procession in Roghi, Himalchal Pradesh; the food at the simple Bouddhist Cafe in Sangla; and the challenge of finding rupees 3 days after all the 500 and 1000 rupee notes had been withdrawn from legal tender!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Discuss your plans with an expert. Our trip was designed by the vacation provider. He listened to what we wanted to do and worked with us to come up with the best itinerary for the time we had available. We would not have seen as much, or had as a good a time, without his advice.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

As far as possible, we stayed in locally run hotels and ate in smaller locally run restaurants. Invariably we found the privately owned and run hotels and cafes were better quality than state owned/managed ones, and the money spent went to the local people.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

This was a return visit to India, although our last one was in 1987. It was great to see how positive, go-ahead and prosperous the country has become, without losing the colour, the culture and the mysticism that makes it India.
