1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Boating down the underground river through the Konglor cave was pretty amazing. I also enjoyed the Khmu lunch and rice wine making demonstration. The many boat trips on the Mekong were also very cool.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Consider allowing your local guide to order a variety of local dishes at group meals. Being able to sample a wide range of local dishes was a real treat. Having visited Laos once before (2018), one can already tell that tourism is growing, making the experience more curated; particularly in Vientiane and Luang Prabang. Now is the time to go and choosing an itinerary focused on getting off the beaten track (i.e. the southern parts of the country) is key. The neighboring governments and business interests (China, Vietnam, & Thailand) are rapidly expanding their reach into this lesser developed country with both the benefits and the loss of cultural identity that comes with it.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. Most everything we did, everywhere we ate, and everywhere we stayed felt very local.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I very much enjoyed the trip. Traveling with a small group of curious, open minded people, being led by knowledgeable local guides who are proud of their country, is the way to see Laos. A shout out to the husband and wife team of Phong & Noy who looked after us with warmth, joy, and tremendous pride of place.
