The boat trip from Flam to Gudvangen through the fjords2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Particularly if planning to travel in May, check out the times of public vacations - we had two public vacations in 5 days, with many shops and attractions shut. The Heimly guesthouse in Flam did a fantastic vegetarian meal for dinner.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
One of the hotels was a small independent and the boat on the fjord was fuly electric running off local hydro power. However any travel will have an environmental cost, especially when flying.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

One particular highlight was driving along designated scenic routes. Not only is the landscape magnificent but viewing points, toilets and cafes have been provided.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Norwegians are very friendly and there seems to be a special relationship between Norway and the UK. There are several memorials marking the help given by Britain during WW2 and almost all Norwegians speak excellent English.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Tourism is an important industry for Norway. The countryside in particular is well looked after with almost no litter which tends to generate a caring response from tourists.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I loved the express boat trip from Balestrand to Bergen. The weather wasn't great but the scenery was beautiful. The rail journey from Oslo to Flåm was also spectacular, it was a shame we missed the boat connection to Balestrand from Flåm as I expect that was beautiful too.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Get a later train from Oslo and stay the night in Flåm, and get the boat to Balestrand the next day. Is saves you carrying around your luggage whilst waiting for the boat, and if your connection is late (as ours was) it means you don't have to take a long taxi ride by road and ferry (subject to availability).3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
