1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Being close to orangutan mother and baby in the forests near Bukit Lawang.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Sumatra has wide climate and terrain variations due to altitude changes. Think about what you will enjoy most and allow additional days in those locations.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Indirectly perhaps, but other than spending money on hotels and guides, not hugely.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very enjoyable. Having a guide and driver was great because it meant we did not have to make any decisions or bookings. Our guide met with us while we ordered dinner, explained the next day and asked our preferences and then we just turned up and enjoyed. This allowed me to really relax.

I'm delighted to share that their trip has a positive impact on the local people and environment. By staying at Ecolodge Bukit Lawang, the guests directly contributes to the conservation of the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan – with proceeds donated to the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme. The supplier we use in Sumatra employs local guides and services, directly contributing to the local community.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Jungle trek, tubing and Bat Cave walk in Bukit Lawang.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Be aware that there are long distances to travel to cover West Sumatra and North Sumatra, which adds to the environmental impact if traveling by car. Also, homestays do not always have hot running water.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. The accommodation and restaurants were locally owned and national park fees help conservation.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very good. We had a very knowledgeable guide and there was an interesting mix of culture, beautiful scenery and activities.
