1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
On the cruise, Hvar Town. Overall, staying 3 nights within Dubrovnik Old Town (organised by the operator), day trip to Lokrum Island by ferry, and at the Valamar President during the conference.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
They should be aware, at least at this time of year, that winds can be strong, the itinerary may change substantially, and they may miss stops they had expected. This affected us as the only 'minicruise' guests, as the whole cruise probably visited most places in the end. Also, cruises are prone to gastric illnesses, which I and others suffered from- without any interest or help. In the ports, we were surprised that our boat was rafting up with so many others, and the destinations were so overcrowded. We are not experienced' cruisers', and would probably not do this again, but instead use local ferries.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
We had one local guide, and ate in a local restaurant once during the cruise, otherwise not particularly. The rest of our 2 weeks in Croatia were land-based (conference in Dubrovnik, Split and Dubrovnik Old Town) and probably of more benefit to the community.4. Overall, we had a great two weeks in Croatia, but the cruise was not the best part of it.Read the operator's response here:
Thank you for your feedback on your cruise to Croatia, we rely heavily on our clients to provide feedback to monitor how the cruises are performing.
There was some very unusual and unseasonal weather last September which meant some ships altered their itineraries to avoid the worst of the weather. We were not made aware of any gastric illness during the cruise and it is very rare on these small ships, they are certainly not prone to gastric illness. Our clients eat ashore most nights so it is almost impossible to trace where a bug might come from as unless everyone on board is ill it is usually something picked up ashore.
I am disappointed to hear that you felt there was such limited benefit to the local population. The ship is locally owned and crewed, providing a good income for the crew of this ship and all of the other small ships in Croatia. Additionally eating ashore most nights provides an important revenue for the locally run restaurants in all the small ports and harbours you visit, which, in turn provides an important income to local farmers and producers supporting the local way of life.
Traveling by ferry can be done to all of the islands, but it can be very difficult to find accommodation for one night on each island. It also means that you would miss out on the swim stops the small ships make every day (Though you may have missed one due to the poor weather) as well as having to repack your bags every day, and carry them from ferry to hotel and back tot he ferry.
The vessels do raft up, especially in the smallest ports such as Hvar. The ports are popular and without building large new jetties which wouldn't suit the small ports the rafting is the only solution.
As you say, Croatia is a beautiful place, but you were unlucky with the weather during your cruise. I do hope it won't put you off small ships as they provide such a great experience for 99% of our clients.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Swimming spots and seeing dolphins. The wine tasting tour was also very nice.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Bring earplugs if you don't want to wake up when the engine starts. Take advice from the cruise manager - she knows a lot!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, as the first cruise of the season I think we definitely brought some business to the small towns we visited. We shopped and ate meals at side street restaurants. I'm not off we reduced environmental impacts - it was a non-electric cruise ship so we definitely emitted more CO2 than if we didn't go at all, but less than the big ships did.4. Very good. There was adequate space on the ship to relax and sunbathe, the crew were very nice and helpful and we really enjoyed getting to swim in the Adriatic. The food quality was good but the welcome dinner was a little underwhelming. We were well catered for, given our complex dietary requirements. The lighting in the cabins could be improved though - bright white strip lights are too harsh for a bedroom setting.Nelly Fokken review 19 Oct 2023

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The ship was beautiful as well as the sights and swim spots2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
You are in for a treat! The islands, their history and pristine waters are spectacular. Being on a small ship cruise is the way to go, you get to meet the people and enjoy their company. Do be prepared for the heat though.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Great ship, food was amazing, the sights and swim stops superb. What could have been better is the air conditioning in the salon - it could not keep up with 40 people and high temperatures outside. For a luxury cruise, this was disappointing. The food was delicious, but the food service was below average, slow and not very friendly server. The rest of the crew was top notch, made us feel welcome and well cared for. The cruise manager was amazing too, went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and well taken care of.Holiday Reviews
