1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Exploring with my family was the overall most satisfying element of the vacation and watching our 14 year old become confident in guiding us through the Metro and choosing restaurants after being wary about going somewhere he was concerned would be incomprehensible. The most memorable individual part was the dusk walk through the wetlands in Hakone.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Hire bikes - do a tour and then hire them yourself. It’s a great way to cover overland distances and see the bits in between the Metro stops. They are cheap and easy to hire and the pedestrian/cyclist pavement soup seems to work. To use all the benefits of the Hakone Pass you need at least a couple of days. Grit your teeth and give the Onsen a go even if it’s way outside your comfort zone. Don’t overpack - just don’t need it. Hotels provide loads of amenities. Walk down the smallest alley and choose the restaurant with no English translation - and see what happens.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Maybe. We would not have gone to Hakone if it hadn't been on this trip - but in a general tourism way.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
An experience which will stay in our hearts forever. Whilst Rob and I may not get to return to Japan (so many other places to see) our 14 year old was sure he would return.Holiday Reviews
