1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Exploring the Danube delta in small boats

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Don't bring stuff you don't really need - be ruthless! The least enjoyable part of the trip was lugging suitcases in and out of where we stayed. There was no shortage of help, but still.... best to be better prepared. Admittedly the guidance did mention this, but we found we needed that help more than expected as we have become less capable with age.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Local people certainly benefitted. It was lovely to stay in guest houses that were unashamedly rural. Not sure about reducing environmental impacts with all the petrol used to bus us around! But that's the nature of a tour. I do believe we supported conservation though. Many of us were enthralled with the whiskered terns on the delta and seeing nature at its rawest when a hooded crow pinched a Great Crested Grebe egg from their small colony of nest rafts.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Fantastic! And full marks to Horea, our guide.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The Danube Delta. Plenty of birdlife to see, even outside of the peak season and a nice relaxing couple of days near the end of the trip.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Be prepared for some long drives. We had an excellent, friendly driver. However, the minibus was cramped and uncomfortable to travel in, so make the most of any comfort stops!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The activities and places we visited were mostly outside the main touristy areas. We did also visit two small small family run enterprises: a weaver and an egg decorator. The guide and driver were both locals. The walks were low impact activities.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

A really enjoyable introduction to Romania and nice overview of the country, which has given me a much better appreciation of the culture, history and landscapes. We enjoyed a good mix of activities, including walking, visiting monasteries, medieval cities, mountains, a ride on a wood-fired steam forest train and the Danube Delta.
