1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Seeing the different towns and villages en route was fabulous.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Download the GPS map and use that, and also try and get a paper map. Also take a small pair of garden clippers, as there were brambles on some parts of the walk which scratched us quite badly.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
We loved the area and the hotels, some of which were quite quirky. I was disappointed that there was not a briefing when we arrived at the first hotel however, as I've had this on other vacations and it has helped enormously regarding giving tips, eg where we could replenish water or buy food enroute, what we could do to avoid certain situations such as walking long distances on a busy road etc. I was also disappointed that when I rang the emergency help number (which I was told to ring when I queried about there not being an initial briefing) the people who answered the phone were not very helpful. This related to the heatwave and the Italian government telling people not to be outside between 11am and 6pm. This meant that we could not walk on some of the days and had to arrange alternative ways to get to the next hotel but taxis were extremely expensive and the drivers who took the luggage from one place to another were charging extortionate prices to take us eg 30 euros each to go around 10 miles. It would have been helpful for the travel company to have a contingency plan in place for this. Also some of our party were able to walk in the heat but to do so, needed to leave the hotels before breakfast started and then had to pay extra to get a packed breakfast, and had to negotiate this separately at each hotel. Again it would have been helpful for a contingency plan to be in place regarding this. And a final point was that some of the hotels provided kettles in the rooms to make hot drinks but some did not, and some did not have de-caffeinated tea on offer - consistency in this regard would be very helpful as would a commitment to provide fresh fruit for breakfast.George Roffe-Silvester review 30 Sep 2024
