1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

We had some amazing experiences. The most memorable part of the vacation was snorkelling and trying scuba diving in the Perenthian Islands off the East coast of Malaysia. Beautiful scenery, welcoming people and a real chance to recharge the batteries and relax!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

This tour is rather 'over guided'. We felt a bit limited and restricted by the tight timetable. Not quite what we expected.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Rather disappointing - our rep was Australian, not the local we had hoped for. Lots of traveling in taxis and buses rather defeated the object of an environmentally-friendly vacation.

4. Any other comments?

Malaysia was wonderful but the trip itself was disappointingly run. We'd go to Malaysia again, but on our own next time! So only two stars I'm afraid.

Thanks for your notes and please be assured that we do value customer feedback. Transport: As a company we believe that we show great social and environmental awareness and the tour you undertook reflects this. Obviously there is a negative impact in any travel (the main impact being that of the intercontinental flight) and as we said earlier by the nature of touring, bus/taxi transport will be necessary. As noted on our itinerary, we do walking tours whenever possible and practical but against this we have to balance the comfort of people who are ostensibly on vacation and therefore require a degree of comfort. It is, therefore, not practical to make our customers walk through a busy town with their baggage to check into hotels, we therefore use taxis to and from the airport. You might be interested to know that Georgetown taxis do in fact use gas rather than petrol. Tour Leader: Ann, your tour leader has been leading tours in Malaysia for 2 years and has a working knowledge of the local language - in our opinion and that of others from your tour who have sent feedback, she is an excellent tour leader and was an eminently qualified and suitable person to lead your tour. Details of itineraries change from time to time, weather conditions, new trekking routes are used and the ability to deal with these in a calm and confident manner rather than a prosaic knowledge of the itinerary is important to us in tour leaders. We back this up by using the local guides (and thank you for your kind comments on them). The use of local guides is for the specific local knowledge and Ann, as a tour leader, is required to ensure the smooth running of the trip. Meals: Tour information explicitly states all meals are included and based on local food. It does specifically say that 'Western style' 3 course meals are not budgeted for and that includes desserts. It also specifically says that any soft or alcoholic beverages consumed with meals are up to the individual customer. Our documentation also clearly states that "Meals are taken as a group, "family style" with the tour leader selecting the restaurant and usually ordering local food with regional specialities". The tour leaders have a system of feeding back to each other restaurants which are good (or conversely bad) and they tend to pool their information when selecting restaurants. My understanding from Ann is that she made use of this. We avoid "telling" the tour leaders which restaurants to use as each have their preferences and the composition of groups and their likes/dislikes vary. Tour reports from another traveler showed that she enjoyed the tour and we have had positive feedback from the tour. We are sorry that this traveler did not enjoy the tour and that it did not match her expectations.
