1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Enjoying the mid-summer celebrations in Riga (Latvia) and visiting the cormorant colony on the Curonian Spit. But the whole trip was memorable as we successfully cycled over 220 miles in three countries. We had a really good experience over ten days, being part of a friendly group of six self guided riders, supported by Igor our conscientious back up and mini-bus driver, . We would have liked another day in Riga, which is a brilliant city.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Don't be put off by the distances - they are easy in the times allowed. We opted for e-bikes as we are in our 70s. One of us uses an e-bike a lot but the other is a lapsed cyclist who, still managed the distances. It's a pretty flat route and our fellow cyclists in their 50s/60s used regular touring bikes. If you can, download the recommended App 'Ride with GPS' beforehand and get some practice with it or join the online sessions. We only had navigation issues on day one and from day two formed a group of six self guided riders working together. Take good shoes for the walking tours in Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. Be prepared for a few early starts to ensure the van arrives at the ferry on time.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Cycling is a low impact way of traveling. The operator uses local guides in Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. The operator is a Lithuanian company. Money spent at our refreshment stops and at local restaurants was clearly supporting small businesses that operate on a relatively short visitor season. In addition we travelled to Vilnius by train with Byway and left by ferry to Helsinki.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Well organised in ensuring we were prepared. The operator is experienced and we felt our needs were catered for. The three main cities were well worth extended visits so we opted for additional nights in Vilnius and Tallinn. We also appreciated the contrasting rural elements on the trip such as cycling on the Curonian Spit, along the coast to Palanga and on Saaremaa island, Estonia. All the hotels selected were either excellent or good and we found restaurants with vegetarian food easy to find everywhere - the best being Cozy Eats in Riga.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Cycling on the curonian spit was the best cycling experience we’ve ever had of all the self-guided tours we’ve had so far (6 cycling trips so far).

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

This trip gives you the best of both worlds: self-guided and guided. You benefit from the guide when needed and feel free to go on your own at other times. You get to make new acquaintances and get to be on your own at will. We definitely recommend cycling on gravel bikes to enhance the pleasure. The regular bikes can be slow and heavy, thus frustrating.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes I think tourism in the Baltics is to be encouraged to support the local people. They need this for their economy. The more tourists show interest in cycling, the more the states will be encouraged to invest in the cycling infrastructure.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very good smooth organisation overall. The local host company is to be recommended.
