1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Methoni is a lovely and quiet location, busy enough without it feeling like a major tourist hot spot that has lost its identity. Great restaurant options, coffee shops and bakeries, lovely little beach set alongside the backdrop of Methoni castle and views out to Sapientza island. Our accommodation was perfect for our needs (three young adults and parents).2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Hiring a car isn't essential unless you want a car on hand for every day. Booking a car from the local providers in Pilos is doable for a day here or there and getting in and out of Pilos is very easy via public bus and local taxi company.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes in a roundabout way.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Very good.Victoria Evans review 19 Jul 2026
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The location, we loved discovering and exploring historic Methoni. The harbour is dominated by the spectacular Venetian castle which was fascinating to explore and carpeted with wildflowers when we visited. The food stood out with countless fantastic tavernas to choose from and a wonderful traditional 4th generation bakery just metres from the house. Everywhere we went people were kind and helpful. The village has a relaxed and traditional feel which suited us well and the small beech with cabanas was perfect for relaxing or swimming. To swim in the turquoise waters under the castle walls was unforgettable. Our hosts could not have been more helpful and arranged an additional trip to see the archaeological site at Nestor's palace north of Pylos with a local guide, which we followed with an evening meal at Gialova. The house is traditional and had everything we needed, it's conveniently situated in the center of the village with a lovely shaded garden. The town of Pylos is easily accessible by bus offering another specatcular castle and coastline and more amenities.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
We didn't hire a car and didn't miss it. You would undoubtedly be able to see more of the delights of the Peloponnese with one but for a week we were content to explore locally. We used local buses which are excellent - if you factor in the possibility they may arrive half an hour early or three quarters of an hour late! We also used the odd taxi, which were easy to find. The host helped arrange taxis to and from the airport which was perfect. We enjoyed our trip to Nestor's Palace and Gialova. Lots of good recommendations in the visitor's book.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I hope it did. We used many local businesses - buses, taxis, local shops, restaurants throughout the trip. Methoni seemed relatively unspoilt by large scale tourism, just smaller hotels and predominantly Greek tourists in July. With such reasonable prices and plentiful places to eat it was easy to avoid many of the trappings of mass consumption. It was a delight to be able to live relatively simply.4. For us it was perfect!Sharon Lambert review 4 Oct 2025

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The ancient sites (so empty), but generally it all felt more like Greece used to be for visitors, not too overrun.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
It sounded like we avoided August crowds, everything was quite empty first week September, but still hot (too hot some days). A car helps, and hairpin bends stopped being a worry after first day, roads are good condition. Check the waterfalls have water before making trips in high summer...3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, it was a local house in town, comfortable but not remodelled unecessarily (no pool or power showers). Could walk everywhere in the town, and used local shops and family restaurants. Owner clearly has longstanding local connections and is full of good suggestions.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Wonderful area for exploring (a car does help), and Methoni is a lovely base, a small non-touristy town (sleepy in a good way). Might try Fiona's places at Gialova next time as did find that we drove through Pylos most days anyway to get to various sites of interest, and beaches are especially lovely up there. Fiona was so helpful and welcoming through the week, it made a big difference. Also impressed by Responsible Travel who found the vacation and were quick to reply.Emma Hayton-Lee review 22 Jun 2024

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Being in a Greek village, feeling like a local, and being able to walk everywhere.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
It's great for kids. The villa is full of toys, books, a play mat, plus other useful touches like loads of blankets and towels, a nappy changing mat, some inflatables for swimming in the sea, and Fiona the owner even provided a paddling pool for us to play in during afternoon play-time at the villa, on the lovely shady patio. We loved the gorgeous views from the villa, and the outdoor shower where the whole family had a wash at the end of each day.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, we ate every night at the local tavernas, we made use of the local boat hire company by hiring a boat and skipper for a morning. We shopped at the local grocery shop and even the art shop, to buy some paper for our daughter to draw on. Everything was in walking distance, so we didn't use a car, except for the taxi to and from Kalamata airport. We took a bus to a nearby town along the coast for a day trip.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Absolutely brilliant. Fiona was so helpful, beforehand and during the vacation, providing us with anything we needed. She even lent us a child-carrier back-pack after we commented that we'd like to do some longer walks. The villa was incredibly well set up with everything we needed, super comfortable, light and airy, and perfectly located in the village - set back from the main streets so that it was very quiet, but close enough to walk to everything. We loved setting out each morning for our coffee in one of the local bars, and we loved walking to the beach and castle and then choosing a taverna for dinner. There are two local bakeries, too, perfect for buying fresh bread and cake. It was easy to compile our own simple salady lunches to eat on our patio. Absolutely perfect vacation.Accommodation Reviews
