1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The kayaking itself was incredible. The Douro Valley is stunning, and the scenery changed throughout the trip, making every day and every section of the river feel different. It was beautiful from start to finish. Another memorable part is the team who were looking after us (organising, cooking, driving, guiding) they were wonderful!2. It depends on the weather but I think at least 3 sets of kayaking clothes are needed. If you are hesitant about booking the trip contact Sergio (the owner) with your concerns. I'm sure he'd be completely honest so that you could make an informed decision.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. The vacation is organised by a small Portuguese family business. Sergio (the owner) was friends with or knew most of the people involved from actually being involved on the water to the accommodation. He is honest and has integrity.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
I had an absolutely fantastic time on the Cross Portugal by Kayak trip through the Douro Valley. It exceeded my expectations from start to finish. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for an unforgettable kayaking adventure - you don’t need to be an experienced kayaker, and you certainly shouldn’t let your age put you off - I’m 70. You do have to have a reasonable level of fitness but not OTT and be able to paddle for 1.5 - 2ish hours in one go. If in doubt, I’m sure Sergio (Tour Leader) would be happy to discuss any concerns you may have so that you can make an informed decision. The group I was part of (7 people) was a lovely, friendly mix of experienced kayakers and people with much less experience – me being one of them. Everyone was made to feel welcome and included, regardless of their kayaking ability or age. The pace and support from the team meant that you could simply enjoy the experience without worrying about whether you were experienced enough. The team made sure the kayaks were set up for the individual’s needs and allowed swapping from single to double or vice versa throughout the vacation. The kayaking itself was incredible. The Douro Valley is stunning, and the scenery changed throughout the trip, making every day and every section of the river feel different. It was beautiful from start to finish. In addition to the kayaking several excursions were planned in: a walking tour of Porto, train ride from Porto to the Spanish border, Palaeolithic art, thermal spa, port tasting, local villages – all of which added to the vacation and were both enjoyable and interesting. There was also lots of delicious food (I went home heavier ??) with different dietary requirements very well catered for. The accommodation was excellent and often really interesting and different, which added to the whole experience. A special mention has to go to the team: Isabel, Sergio, Marcos and Miguel. They were all absolutely fantastic. They worked incredibly hard to make sure everyone had a great time and consistently went above and beyond what was expected of them. They created such a warm, friendly, almost family-like atmosphere within the group, which really made the trip special. The whole trip was well organised from beginning to end. I came away with some wonderful memories and a real sense that we had been part of something rather special. If you’re thinking about booking this trip, go for it. Don’t let your age or kayaking experience hold you back — you’ll be looked after, feel safe throughout, made to feel part of the group and have an amazing time. The river was beautiful as expected. Our guides Sergio and Marcos and driver Miguel took such good care of us. Every detail was seen to, and my fondest memories will be of their care and kindness.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The views from the vineyards and forested areas from the river were fantastic. The kayaking was really nice. We especially loved the hike through the vineyards and walking around smaller villages in the late afternoons. The guides and our driver were very friendly and helpful. We really felt they were our friends just a few days into the trip.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
