1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Lovely clifftop walks in the Alentejo.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Walking in soft sand on clifftops is tougher than you might expect, especially in the heat. Walking poles are really helpful. Some sections of the walk are very long--20km plus with little in the way of villages or cafes between them. If you are doing the long version to Lagos, try and build in a couple of rest days along the way. We went May 10 to 27. Mid April to mid May is probably a better time. Book early for better accommodation options. Getting gluten free bread and cereal was challenging in the smaller guesthouses and villages. Stock up where you can.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

In general, yes.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Overall, we enjoyed the trip especially the first part through the Alentejo region. It becomes more touristy from Cabo San Vincente onwards. The terrain here is also dull and there is a lot of walking on unpaved roads. The first half of the trip was definitely the better part.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The spectacular scenery and the opportunity to experience it with family.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Despite the absence of elevation changes, the hiking is not easy. The soft sand, which is present in every section of the hike (except for the Cercal to Porto Covo section), adds a level of difficulty many may not be prepared for. We would recommend bringing hiking poles...we found ours very helpful.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Certainly the influx of hiking tourists has helped to inject money into these once sleepy fishing villages. The local economies have responded by developing more and more tourist infrastructure...which has its own down side.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

We had a great experience. We had near perfect weather, loved the scenery, and felt justified in eating all of that delicious food and drink.
