The beautiful Cuban people, learning various Latin dances, delicious food.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Being an American in Cuba is a special challenge. Make sure you have enough cash!3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Absolutely. Wherever we went and whatever we did, we were in direct contact with the lovely Cuban people, all whom opened their hearts to us. We were serenaded in the streets, people wanted to connect with Americans/Europeans; yes, they asked for help in all sorts of ways, but they primarily wanted to learn and teach, connect with others, showcase their beautiful country, including the heartbreak that results from their trying circumstances. I felt safe and welcomed wherever I went. My homestay hosts were warm and lovely; I fell ill the last few days and I was nurtured by my homestay hosts.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
I was very pleased with the level of attention and safety on this trip. The lessons were stimulating and I felt well matched with my teacher. We had a nice balance of structured and free time. My guide, Tamara, the Cuban people, and hosts were all attentive, warm, proud and loving people; I felt very cared for. The information prior to the trip was extensive, thorough and very helpful. Kath in the office even fronted me some cash, as Americans can't access banks and unfortunately, I didn't have enough cash for the trip due to some unforeseen events. My few disappointments were related to the parties in the evening; they were not as well attended as I had hoped and thus, didn't get as much dancing in at times. I made a few lifelong friends on this trip and had special moments that could not have been planned. The location and activities were fantastic. I enjoyed the classes. The teaching from Claudio was first class. The dancers were patient and kind.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Be flexible. Things can change at the last minute. Cash is king. Pesos for small local shops. The mosquitoes are persistent repellent is a must.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Staying in a casa benefits the people more. Use local shops. I would have liked to learn more about how the items we contributed were distributed.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
