1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

There were so many memorable parts of my visit to Uganda! It was packed with exciting and enriching experiences. The close encounters - dare I say, connection -with the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, as well as the deeply personal and moving visit to the Batwa community were among the most impactful. I was also thrilled and delighted by the golden monkeys. The itinerary was thoughtfully assembled to build from one day/activity to the next, ensuring we had the opportunity to learn about the history, wildlife and cultural dynamics and build fitness in advance of each new adventure.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Ask for Peter as your guide. He was exceptional in every way - knowledgeable about Uganda, Rwanda and the region, readily sharing info and thoughtful and responsive to questions and needs, and a terrific driver. I cannot imagine this trip would have been anywhere near as outstanding without his extensive experience, personality and conscientiosness. Also, I highly recommend adding a day or two on the beginning or end of your stay, if possible. Kigali is lovely, clean and safe (though I felt even safer in Uganda!), and I enjoyed having an extra day to relax and process everything I had experienced during the trip in that setting.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

100 percent! Our direct engagement with the Batwa community and support for them was the most explicit evidence of our beneficial impact locally. In addition, it was clear that our encounters with the golden monkeys, chimpanzees and gorillas added to their habituation in a positive way while we also enjoyed every minute. Each component of the trip considered conservation, improving the quality of life for both people and wildlife, and avoiding harm. I was particularly pleased to see the guides, interns and rangers would pick up trash if they found any in the parks or forest, to ensure no litter impacted the ecosystem.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Can I give more than 5 stars? It was phenomenal! The only thing I would have changed is to stay longer.

Uganda and the wildlife are fabulous. Unfortunately the host company was a disappointment: bad lodging, inappropriate vehicle and a reticent guide.

Seeing the primates in the wild

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Just do it! If possible, arrive early to spend a few days in Kigali, as the tour does not include any activities there.

Yes, apart from the activities included in the tour, our guide arranged visits to a local organic coffee farm. We had many opportunities to interact with the local communities throughout the tour.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent! Our guide Peter was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and flexible, you couldn't ask for a better person to look after you. The itinerary was great and both Rwanda and Uganda are wonderful.
