Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Carbon Reduction

Our trips are built around human-powered travel, primarily walking and hiking. Most experiences last 1–3 days, with some extending to multi-day alpine treks. During these journeys, we avoid motorized transport, embracing slow travel that fosters a deeper connection with nature.

We encourage all participants to arrive via public transportation, such as trains or local buses, which are reliable and widely available throughout Switzerland. Starting points are carefully selected for easy access by public transit (e.g., SBB trains, PostAuto buses). We do not use private cars or shuttle vans, and we actively promote Swiss Rail Passes to further reduce carbon emissions.

Environment and Wildlife

For overnight stays, we favor small, locally-owned guesthouses or simple alpine huts, which often feature minimal infrastructure and a low environmental footprint. Many accommodations share facilities, limit plastic use, practice recycling, and some are off-grid or partially powered by solar energy. Large hotels and luxury resorts are intentionally avoided.

Before each trip, guests receive a short guide with practical tips to:

Stay on marked trails

Avoid loud noises and disturbing wildlife

Leave no trace, including proper disposal of food waste

Minimize plastic use and bring reusable items

Respect local flora, particularly fragile alpine flowers

People

Local Economy

All of our accommodations are 100% locally owned—we completely avoid hotel chains. Overnight stays are chosen in family-run guesthouses, traditional alpine huts, or even rustic barns with hay bedding, offering guests an authentic Swiss experience. Many of these are historic buildings, passed down through generations and managed by locals who live and work in the area.

Unique experiences include staying in hay lofts on mountain farms or in simple shepherd shelters used during seasonal transhumance, connecting travelers with traditional alpine life.

We work directly with small mountain lift operators, local producers, and regional alpine guides. Guests are encouraged to visit village cheese cellars, explore craft markets (such as those in Disentis or Saanen), and buy directly from farmers, especially during events like Alpabzug or Alpaufzug.

We also promote independent travel via regional trains and PostBuses, supporting local infrastructure while avoiding reliance on large transport companies.

Employment, Inclusivity, and Diversity

All collaborators are based in Switzerland. When additional support is needed—guides, drivers, or hosts—we hire locals from the exact regions where trips operate, such as Graubünden, Valais, or Central Switzerland. We do not outsource to non-local or international agencies.

While our project is still small, we actively seek partnerships with women-led businesses (farm stays, artisanal producers) and older farmers preserving traditional methods.

We offer free or discounted trips to low-income migrants and students in Switzerland, and occasionally organize inclusive community hikes where participation is based on interest rather than income.

All experiences are LGBTQ+ friendly and built around values of nature, connection, and respect. Everyone is welcome, provided they share these values.
