Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Carbon Reduction
Our expedition relies primarily on the power of the wind: we sail under canvas whenever conditions allow, minimizing the use of engines and reducing our carbon footprint. The itinerary includes numerous hiking excursions, encouraging exploration on foot rather than by motorized transport. For example, we take short hikes to panoramic viewpoints overlooking the fjords, walks across tundra landscapes dotted with Arctic flowers, and routes leading to glacier fronts such as Månegletcher. We also explore remote spots like MudderBugt and Charkot Havn, visit historic Hekla Havn, and enjoy a cultural walk through Ittoqqortoomiit, Greenland’s most isolated settlement. Meals are prepared collectively by the crew, which means we can easily accommodate vegetarian or vegan options upon request—another way to lower the environmental impact of our journey.

Environment and Wildlife
Traveling under sail means we move quietly across the water, avoiding noise pollution that could disturb marine life. When we go ashore, we follow strict guidelines to respect the fragile Arctic ecosystem: we leave no trace, avoid disrupting wildlife, and maintain a safe distance from animals. Greenland is first and foremost the home of its wildlife, not ours, and we act accordingly to ensure our presence does not interfere with their natural behavior.

People

Local Economy
We actively support the local economy by renting essential equipment from Greenlandic suppliers rather than bringing everything from abroad. This approach helps sustain local businesses and ensures that our operations contribute directly to the communities we visit.

Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity
Our hiring process for skippers is transparent and based on official qualifications required by law. Beyond meeting these standards, social background or gender plays no role in our selection. Around 30% of our skippers are women, and we are proud to foster gender diversity in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Inclusivity is at the heart of our voyages: everyone is welcome, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. No prior sailing experience is needed to join our trips. Sailing does not require perfect physical fitness, so people with intellectual disabilities, hearing or vision impairments, and moderate mobility limitations can participate successfully. The only restriction applies to individuals who use wheelchairs or have very severe mobility challenges, as we cannot guarantee the necessary onboard conditions.
