This Arctic expedition is designed as a low-impact alternative to large-scale polar tourism. Travel takes place on a small expedition yacht, significantly reducing per-person emissions compared to cruise ships operating in the region. The itinerary avoids internal flights entirely, relying instead on a single continuous sailing journey from Svalbard to Iceland.

Life onboard is based on shared resources and mindful consumption. Energy use is carefully managed, with onboard systems (including heating and water production) used efficiently and only when necessary. The yacht operates under sail whenever weather conditions allow, minimizing engine use and fuel consumption.

Food provisioning is planned to reduce waste and packaging, with an emphasis on simple, seasonal where possible. Vegetarian options can be prepared onboard, helping to reduce the overall carbon footprint of meals during the expedition.

We actively encourage travelers to reduce their wider travel footprint by choosing lower-emission flights, traveling light, and staying longer in the region rather than taking multiple short trips.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This voyage operates in some of the world’s most fragile Arctic ecosystems, where strict environmental awareness is essential. All landings are conducted in accordance with local regulations and only where permitted, ensuring minimal disturbance to sensitive habitats.

Wildlife encounters are always respectful and non-intrusive. Animals such as polar bears, seabirds, and marine mammals are observed from a safe distance, with no feeding, chasing, or interference. Education is a key part of the experience—guests learn about Arctic ecosystems, climate change, and conservation challenges during the voyage.

The expedition follows a strict “leave no trace” approach. Waste is carefully managed and stored onboard until it can be disposed of responsibly in port. Single-use plastics are minimized, and crew and guests are encouraged to reduce unnecessary consumption.

By traveling in a small group, the impact on remote landing sites is kept very low compared to mass tourism. Where visits to protected areas or remote regions occur, they contribute indirectly to conservation efforts through permits and local regulations designed to support environmental protection.

Although much of the expedition takes place in remote and uninhabited regions, the trip supports local economies at key points along the route. Provisioning, marina services, and logistics in Longyearbyen (Svalbard) and Ísafjörður (Iceland) contribute directly to small Arctic communities.

Where landings in Greenland are possible, visits to remote settlements such as Ittoqqortoormiit provide opportunities to engage respectfully with local communities and support small-scale local economies. Any local services, guiding, or purchases are sourced responsibly and with cultural sensitivity.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

The expedition is led by an experienced skipper and small crew, ensuring fair working conditions and a safe, inclusive onboard environment. Life at sea is based on teamwork, mutual support, and shared responsibility, creating a collaborative space for people from diverse backgrounds.

We actively promote inclusivity in adventure travel. Our expeditions have included sailors with disabilities, including a blind traveler and experienced sailor who has successfully participated in offshore voyages with us. Due to the remote Arctic environment and safety considerations, participants should have a reasonable level of mobility and fitness. However, no previous sailing experience is required, and we support participants in learning and contributing at their own pace.
