Travel guides
For whether you want a health kick, quiet meditation, or to train as a yoga teacher yourself...
Our guide explores this country where, as the tourist board once claimed, 'the only risk is wanting to stay'.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTIONInternational flights to Cartagena are not included. Guests arriving at the specified time travel together from the airport, followed by a shared boat transfer to Tierra Bomba. The group uses the same boat service when moving from the island to Cartagena for the final two nights.
The island property measures the emissions produced by its boat journeys and continues to look for ways to reduce the impact of its operations. Around half of the electricity used at the beach club is generated by solar panels.
We measure the emissions associated with our retreats and use the results to identify practical reductions within our operations. We do not use carbon offsetting as a substitute for reducing emissions.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
The Tierra Bomba beach club is a certified B Corp with systems designed to reduce waste, energy use and pressure on the island’s water supply. It reports that around 50% of the water it uses is recovered through a natural wastewater treatment system and that its operations are approximately 80% waste-free. Single-use plastics are restricted and biodegradable products are used wherever possible.
The venue’s biodiversity programme focuses on restoring native vegetation around the property. Tierra Bomba’s remaining areas of tropical dry forest and mangroves have been heavily degraded, so the project is replanting native species and supporting the recovery of hummingbirds, butterflies and orchids.
A contribution to the venue’s Impact Fund is included for each guest. This supports waste reduction, local employment, community projects in Bocachica and environmental restoration on Tierra Bomba.
Food is purchased according to the venue’s responsible sourcing policy. Produce is grown in its kitchen garden where possible, while seafood is selected from responsibly managed stocks.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYAlthough the island property is not locally owned, it has established policies designed to keep tourism income within Colombia. The venue reports that approximately 70% of its spending remains in the surrounding community.
Most of the beach club team come from Tierra Bomba and many have worked at the property for several years. The retreat also uses Colombian boat crews, activity providers, artists, guides, yoga studios, restaurants and hotel staff.
Products sold at the property are sourced from Colombian businesses, with preference given to female-owned and minority-owned suppliers with responsible production practices.
Our programme includes a guided visit to Bocachica village, allowing guests to see another part of Tierra Bomba beyond the beach hotels. A local community committee decides how funds donated to the Bocachica Community Fund are used, including school supplies, community clean-ups, care for older residents and sports projects.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
The island property states that its lowest base wage is at least 15% above Colombia’s national minimum wage. With tips and bonuses included, all staff receive at least the established Colombian living wage.
The business creates progression routes for existing employees rather than routinely recruiting managers from overseas. Staff gratuities are included in the retreat price, so the on-site team is not dependent on optional guest tipping.
The property deliberately works with businesses owned by women and people from underrepresented backgrounds. Its social and environmental commitments are assessed through its B Corp certification.
The retreat welcomes solo travelers, friends and couples and is LGBTQ+ friendly. Yoga options are provided for different levels of experience. Guests with mobility requirements should contact us before booking, as boat transfers, sandy surfaces and the historic streets of Cartagena may present access difficulties.
Reclaim Yourself Retreats and our Tierra Bomba host are both certified B Corps.
