1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The stunning scenery where we stayed. It's a winter wonderland. The amazing food and lovely family who took care of us for the week. The Husky sledding was definitely my highlight. The dogs are so friendly and well behaved. It was such an exhilaration sledding through the snow. I also enjoyed the saunas. Especially the sauna at the cabin with no electricity. It was incredible. So amazing to have our wash in the sauna. The night sky was also memorable.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

If you are renting their gear still take with you light waterproof clothing. If the weather is mild at -1° their rental clothing will be too warm so you will need something lighter to wear that's still waterproof. Make sure your rucksack that you are taking out with you is also waterproof. You may also want to take a small lunch box for the picnic lunches.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

5 star. It was incredible. Every day was amazing.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

I really cannot specify any particular event as the most memorable or exciting. All of the activities we participated in were great fun, educational and novel. The not knowing how we would fare (having not done most of these things before) was exciting, but the husky sleds and the sleeping in a Quinzee probably top the list. The opportunity to experience several winter activities, in an amazing environment, supported by a passionate and professional tour guide exceeded all of my expectations. The accommodation was perfect, clean, warm and homely. The Park staff were friendly, nothing being too much trouble, food excellent and facilities extensive. We were very fortunate in having Tomasz Bogacz as a guide, and to be in a small group. All of the staff including Jari, Taina, Rauno, Miia, Ville and Kari were brilliant, and I am aware that a lot of hard work went on behind the scenes to make our stay faultless.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Read the website information – there is a lot of information in there. I took far more than I needed including Crampons, Walking poles and several Jackets – the suits supplied, boots and mittens are brilliant, as is all the skis, snowshoes, snowmobile helmets, balaclavas etc. I even took towels, but all were provided. The resort even provided us with a packed lunch for our early departure. As we were flying into Helsinki, we chose to stay a few days there before flying up to Kuusamo to tour the City. Well worth it. We did not get to see the Northern Lights due to weather conditions, and when it was clear they were too far away. The staff at the center have an App to show the likelihood of seeing them – so don’t get disappointed if you don’t as these cannot be guaranteed!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

In separate conversations with two external activity leaders, our presence was vital to their livelihoods, and they were very appreciative. There is an extensive team at the Park all dependant on the tourists. Six flights in all may not be too positive from an environmental viewpoint, but there is no doubt that the Finns take the environment very seriously. This is reinforced regularly throughout. I learned a lot from the guide about the environment, and how, at least in the National Park, humans have to live in Harmony with Nature. If one tree is felled, four are replanted and there is very little waste.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Absolutely amazing – a fantastic experience. Wonderful people in a Wonderful Country.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The trip to the wilderness cabin was great fun. Really enjoyable to be able to spend the night out there. Chopping wood, fetching water from the well and a traditional wood-fired sauna were all part of the fun.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Make sure you bring plenty of warm clothes. Consult the kit list in advance!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We didn't consume much once we there there. The companies used were all local.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was a fantastic week. Our guide, Janne, was great. He went the extra mile to adjust things to suit the mix of people on the tour and local conditions.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

It's hard to choose one - I had a lovely time with the small team of ladies and the hospitality from our guide Mika, and our chef Harri was phenomenal! All the activities were great, and the food was delicious.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Definitely bring warm clothes and get some exercise in before hand. I'm glad I had started working out before hand so the skiing and snowshoeing were not too strenuous.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I think so - provided employment opportunities for guides, reindeer farmers, husky farmers, etc. and we practiced "leave no trace" during our excursions.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Fabulous - can't wait to go back again!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The husky safari and the general scenery.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The optional activities day - some of the activities incur a further charge (if you wanted to do snowmobile riding or further husky sledge rides. Some other activities are included in the price of the week (snow shoeing/ cross country skiing etc). This fact was not clear on the itinerary. Also if traveling as a couple, split your clothes/toiletries between you as the small aircraft you take from Helsinki has limited hold space (obviously not enough to hold 1 suitcase per person) - one of our bags was not loaded despite paying extra for it to be put into the hold. Although, it did fortunately arrive the next day by taxi.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, it employed local people as guides and to look after us during our stay.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very good. We did not see the northern lights due to cloud cover whilst there, but had a good time nonetheless.

Read the operator's response here:

We are sorry it wasn't clear with supplements for optional activities. We will revise the information so that it'll be clear in the future. Regarding the problem with luggage it unfortunately happens regularly, worldwide, that the luggage doesn't arrive with the passenger. It's really a good idea to split the things if traveling as a couple. The aircraft however is a typical aircraft used on flights inside Finland, I'm sure it has the "normal" space for luggage in relation to the number of passengers.
