Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
The Komodo Dragon is listed as 'vulnerable' on the endangered species list and it is vital that its habitat is maintained and protected. The Komodo Dragon is only found on the islands of Komodo, Flores and Rinca. The entrance fees and conservation donation you make as part of this trip goes towards the upkeep and protection of the national park in which they live. There are just over 2,000 Komodo Dragons left in the wild and it is vital that efforts continue to be made to increase and protect their population. Local guides on this trip ensure that the dragons habitat is not disturbed by tourism and that tourists view the dragons from a responsible distance. Our Ground Agents are very much aware of the environmental impact of tourism and work closely with the charity R.O.L.E. This charity is involved in essential activities such as beach cleaning and environmental awareness training for islanders.
While they understand that tourism is important for the economic stability of Komodo and its surrounding islands, ensuring that the footprint visitors leave is small is equally as important. By booking this vacation with us, your money helps to continue R.O.L.E’s work in protecting the environment and ensuring that the islands you visit are as postcard perfect in reality.
People
We believe that we all have a shared responsibility to protect the places we visit. In Indonesia, the ground agents we use know the country like the back of their hands and recognise that it is their home as well as their livelihood.By booking through us, you are ‘giving back’ to the local community and helping to improve their quality of life and standards of education. For example, the boat you will board in Labuhan Bajo is staffed by employees from the local area. The tourism industry benefits them and their families and gives you a much more authentic and insider’s view of the country. Similarly, your English speaking guide who is with you throughout is from the local area. The cruise ship company are committed to giving back to Indonesia through improving the skills, education and livelihood of their staff.
Our Ground Agents work to provide local villages with the tools to help improve education along witch social services, assistance programs and structural developments, although any building work is carefully considered to minimise its impact on the natural environment.
