Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFEThis luxury family itinerary has been designed to ensure that it has a positive impact on the planet and in Costa Rica we work with partners on the ground and book properties who share our values and undertake positive, eco and sustainable tourism practices. When in conservation areas, it is vital that we hand-pick lodges that have a positive impact on the environment and actively preserve this for future generations. For example Senda Monteverde has planted over 5,500 native plants, maximising biodiversity whilst reducing their carbon footprint. You'll also get free complimentary access to the Aguti Wildlife Reserve next door by staying here. As members of the Cayuga Collection of Sustainable Luxury Hotels & Lodges, the organisation is a world leader in sustainable hospitality.
CARBON REDUCTION
We also encourage you to stay longer on your trip; when you travel less but stay longer your carbon footprint from both long and short-haul flights or road transfers is dramatically reduced. Embracing slow travel is not only good for the planet, it's also the best way to see and experience all the magic that Costa Rica has to offer.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYIt is very important that we promote properties that have a positive impact on their surroundings and give back to the local community by supporting local small businesses and employing from the local area. Where possible we support locally owned and/or managed hotels and lodges, like Xandari, which employs 44 of its 56 staff from local villages and make regular donations to the Asociación Pro Ayuda al Niño y Adolescente en la Salud ("Assocation for Child and Adolescent Health") which helps provide medical attention to children and adolescents from lower income families. We vet our suppliers in every destination we work with to ensure that your experience will be both culturally enriching and beneficial for the local communities.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
All the guides referred to in this itinerary are employed locally and offer incredible knowledge about the history and communities of Costa Rica. We believe it is essential to have local guides as this provides a more authentic and cultural experience for travelers. Employing local guides also ensures money goes back into the local community and once again helps to minimize tourism leakage.
